218th General Assembly Recollections from Elder Commissioner Jodi SchmidtGreetings, Brothers and Sisters in Christ: I am deeply grateful and honored to be at the 218th G.A. Thank you for the privilege. Hilary told us before we left for San Jose about the power and presence of the Holy Spirit at G.A. The power, presence, and guidance of the Holy Spirit have been felt and observed. Bringing this close to home, I was able to witness the conviction of the Holy Spirit in my fellow commissioner Jim Miller’s life. When Jim left his committee, he felt that the wording of a committee recommendation that he had approved was not accurate. “Just not quite right…Like a rock in your shoe.” For the next day and a half, Jim could be seen walking around with his eyes fixed to the floor wrestling and struggling with what to do. He met with other committee members, and they wrote, and he presented on the floor an amendment (what we in Maumee Valley Presbytery would like to call the “Miller Amendment”) to the 218th General Assembly. The amendment was approved and the motion as amended was adopted. I could visibly see the conviction and power of the Holy Spirit working in Jim. What an awesome experience!
