Maumee Valley Presbytery is the body of Christ, Presbyterian (U.S.A.), in northwestern Ohio and southeastern Michigan.  Our vision statement is:
Maumee Valley Presbytery – A Christian Community Witnessing, Embracing and Teaching God’s Love.

From December 2007 Leadership Notes Newsletter:
A special THANK YOU! to Rev. Dick Mahlmann (Tiffin, First) who has been managing the worksite at the manse renovation project and to Rev. Kimberly Secrist Ashby. (Sandusky, First) who dreamed the vision to renovate the manse.  We couldn’t have done this without both of you!

Dear Maumee Valley Presbytery,
Thanks be to God for your faithfulness, your prayers, and your generosity.  In the words of Paul, “I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in your will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  (Phil. 1:3-6)
Through the efforts of 22 churches and seven individuals, plus the Presbyterian Women, we have more than met our fundraising goal of $15,000 for the Manse Renovation in Olena.  The Synod matched the first $10,000, and the Presbytery matched all $15,000, so we now have $40,000 to fully complete the project.  The house will be well-equipped to welcome the new organizing pastor of the Monte Sinai Hispanic NCD, and we are really delighted.  Around twelve churches have sent work groups, and we have room for your congregation to send a group as well this fall.  More work needs to be done.  Our timeline is longer now, but the PNC is still hard at work discerning who will be the new pastor.
We appreciate all of you who have contributed, and although we have sent letters, we will thank you all officially the next time we have the opportunity.  We accomplished this goal between two Presbytery meetings, and I am fully aware how difficult that is, and how well we did.  Grace and peace to all of you, and again, our appreciation for helping to make this dream come true.
In Christ,
Rev. Kimberly Secrist Ashby

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The Monte Sinai Hispanic Fellowship has asked me to convey to you their heartfelt thanks for all of the work being done on their behalf.  They are overwhelmed by the love and support expressed in so many ways – funds for the manse renovation, grants for their new church development, workers to help with the manse, several on the committee dedicated to finding a pastor.  As we talked last week at the PNC meeting, two of the gentlemen took quite a bit of time to explain just how deeply they felt the connection with our Presbytery, how much they appreciated all that had been given, and how much they looked forward to becoming an even more vital part of our work and ministry as churches.  They see God’s blessings in their lives in the form of all of us, and they thank God regularly.
I extend special thanks to the churches and individuals who have provided financial support and worked as volunteers at the manse, as well as the marvelous members of the Pastor Nominating Committee.  It is exciting work to birth a new church, and I have never felt better about it than I did at that recent meeting.  The faces of those two gentlemen that night conveyed more than any words could express, and I felt God’s Spirit among us yet again.  What a true blessing it is to work together in ministry!
The Peace of Christ be with you all,
Rev. Kimberly Secrist Ashby

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is time for our update on the progress of the Mt. Sinai fellowship, their manse, their pastor search, etc.  See below for fundraising progress, and the wonderful list of churches who have donated.  I am delighted to tell you that we had another work group on Saturday, July 21.  First Pres. Findlay came and brought people who LIKE to remove wallpaper!  Apparently, remove wallpaper they did!  There were 4-5 layers of wallpaper in some areas, but they got through 2 ½ rooms partnering with a few people from the Tiffin church as well.  A new storm door was installed, two upstairs bedrooms got some much needed paint, and work is progressing on the house.  Market Street Lima is planning for their workday, and the Northeast Cluster of the Presbytery will have a workday August 18 that anyone may join if they wish.
There is a great need for more work crews to come, whether during the week or on the weekend.  We have painting, wallpaper removal, plastering, chimney removal, and many other large and small jobs to be done.  Please contact Dick Mahlmann (419-447-2004, presbyterian@tiffinohio.com) or Kimberly Ashby (419-625-6261, ksashby@sbcglobal.net) to volunteer as an individual or as a group.  If we are to get this house ready by the end of September, we have lots more to do!
The Mt. Sinai fellowship has done more landscaping and painting work on the church building, and it looks just beautiful from the outside.  They are taking care of their facilities very nicely, and it’s obvious that landscaping is one of their greatest gifts.
The Pastor Nominating Committee is working busily, having received a total of 14 different applications to review.  They are in the process of face-to-face interviews with candidates during the month of August.  There is a hope that the PNC will have a candidate to present to Committee on Ministry before the September Presbytery meeting, but we are waiting for God’s Spirit to lead and guide us to the right person.
Finally, an update on the fundraising efforts.  Our fundraising total of what has been received so far stands at just short of $7000.  Some money has been pledged, but not yet sent.  We really need to get past the $10,000 mark so that the Synod can release the entire matching grant money.  I have heard from some of you who are planning to send a gift, and we look forward to it!  Our heartfelt thanks, with personal letters to come, to all of these churches, and several individuals who have sent contributions already:
            Norwalk                       Monroe                        Toledo Eastminster                  Defiance
            Tiffin                            Ada                              Willard                                     Sandusky
            Shelby                         Market Street Lima

It’s not too late!  Please get your contributions in as soon as possible so that we can complete the projects we have planned for the house!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

Lovingly in Christ,
Rev. Kimberly Secrist Ashby
